This class is designed for students who have little to no formal acting training. Actors are guided through an introduction to the craft, as well as an overview of acting on camera. After they complete their 1st session (4 weeks) the actor may get invited to continue in the studio.
Focusing primarily on scene study, these classes (intro, intermediate and advanced) reveal a specific method of acting for the camera tailored by the founder of Alza Acting Studio award winning actor filmmaker Walter Alza (Get Rich or Die Tryn , Flashpoint, Metropia). We also use elements from the techniques of great acting teachers that have shaped the lives of Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, etc. This class focuses not only on scene study and character development, but also on the craft by guiding you to explore yourself more.
In addition to covering an introduction to movement and voice for on camera work, this class teaches you how to:
- Build Self Confidence

- Text & Script Analysis (scene and monologues)
- Break down scenes and monologues from theatre, film and television script
- Be present and to work objectives and actions

This intermediate course is designed for actors with a minimum of 8 months of training or experience. It offers a deep dive into on-camera scene study and advanced acting techniques.

What You’ll Experience:
On-Camera Scene Study
Work on camera with techniques developed by Walter Alza, renowned for his roles in Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Flashpoint, Metropia, and Due South. Mr. Alza has appeared in over 120 episodes of television and film.
The Alza Method incorporates elements from the techniques of great acting teachers such as Stanislavsky’s Method, Michael Chekhov’s Biomechanics, Stella Adler’s Acting Technique, Lee Strasberg’s teachings, tools from Meisner’s Technique, and insights from Mamet. This class offers a specific technique of acting for the camera tailored by the founder of Alza Acting Studio, award winning actor/filmmaker Walter Alza (Flashpoint, Get Rich or Die Trying). We also use elements from the techniques of Meisner, Chekhov and Stanislavski.
This class will provide a master level preparation for auditions, rehearsals and on set performances. Each of these involves different direction and acting requirements. You will learn how to deliver the best performance in all three situations.
You will learn scene study within the language of the director/actor relationship. Directors and actors communicate differently and it is very important to know what the director wants. We will explore the very different energies and needs of the director and actors.

Prerequisite: The student must have successfully completed the Intro To Acting on Camera or at Minimum of 2 months of professional training in a recognizable acting studio or College/University.
A progression and advancement of the work established in Scene Study on the Intro Class to Film and Television. Delving more deeply into the on Camera work and the discussion of text and character development. Working with more advanced scenes and scenarios and introducing new concepts of biomechanics, scene and story structure.
Breaking down scenes and looking closer at the given circumstances and what they mean. Character Development, discovering emotions and layers organically in your character and in your relationship with your partner. How to listen to your partner and be present in the moment - The Alza Method and "Keeping it Real on camera"
Each session will include different instructors and may have special Theme Weeks to work on a specific type of scene or element of the craft

Actors learn by doing. Throughout the journey of this class, actors have the opportunity to practice different tools to improve their personal craft. With a lot of hard work, focus and determination, students learn how to develop a character that can compete with the next person who walks in the audition room or on set.
Using tools from various techniques that have been in use for hundreds of years and Alza s own work, which covers more than two decades, is incorporated into the classroom work, with the result an organic approach for each learner: inner dialog, energy and instincts and bio mechanics come together to take everyone a step beyond.
This class goes back to basics, with a focus on making your instrument work for you and working to create a new person who may not be exactly who you are, but was nevertheless birthed by you. Your instrument is your body, soul and voice. (no audits) Actors must complete INTRO TO ACTING On Camera & Alza s Method & Craft, or the Intermediate class before joining this class or must have prior training experience.

This intensive study of Shakespeare plays and the Sonnets takes close account of the social and political circumstances in which they were written and performed. This broad historicist approach is complemented by a strong emphasis on the diversity of twentieth century critical responses to the plays and on modern productions of them, both on stage and on screen.
The course will develop your knowledge of the range and variety of Shakespeares dramatic and poetic work; examine how its reception and status has been shaped by cultural and institutional factors; and explore themes such as questions of genre, politics, sexuality and gender.
